Here are the steps for the previous illustration. They show the different types of body forms you can use to help you create 3-D looking figures (cubical, round, and organic.)
I'm hip! Dan did an awesome job on that book. His steps were a little more advanced than some of my previous books, but I think with practice you can catch on pretty quickly with what he is doing. When I first saw his steps I decided to try doing some drawings following them to see if they worked, and voila! They really help you quickly sketch 3-D shapes.
